Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a colorless, irritating gas with a strong spicy odor. It is easily soluble in water to form sulfite and slowly turns into sulfuric acid. It is corrosive and harmful to animals and plants. Sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere comes mainly from burning sulfur-containing coal and fuel. Smelting, oil refining, sulfuric acid production process will also produce sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide is also used in the production of sulfate, thiosulfate and other chemical products. In the light industry, sulfur dioxide is used for tanning and vulcanizing rubber, as well as bleaching of pulp, wood, wool, flour, silk, sugar and the like. Sulfur dioxide is also used as a food disinfectant and preservative and as a cabin fumigant. The increase of sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere is one of the major pollution caused by industrialization, which seriously endangers the health of workers and urban residents. For example, London has been in the period from 1873 to 1962
