SILK ARTS AND TRADITIONAL CHINESE PAINTING

Chinese silk has a long history and is closely related to traditlonalChinese painting in design,colour and pattern.To apply handpainting on silk is a very old tradition in China.The legend saysthat during the reigns of Emperors Huang,Yao and Shun,babilimentswere made of materials of conspicuous multi-colour.The silk paintings of the Western Han Dynasty unearthed at Mawang Mound,Changsha are single-line plain works with vivid images.Prominentpainters of the Tang dynasty like Yang Liben even used such coatingmaterials as made of glue and gold and silver dusts as fillers inpainting garments,skirts,ourtains and screens.At present,silk paintings which employ traditional Chinese technique are selling well all over the world.In ancient China,the worksof prominent painters were adopted as silk weaving and embroiderydesigns.Modern technique is able to create exquisite silk works ofart with designs of herses,chickens,pines and cranes copied directlyfrom such well known painters as Xu Beihong and Chen Zhifu.Insilk Chinese silk has a long history and is closely related to traditonal Chinese painting in design, color and pattern.
