In May 1812, Napoleon Bonaparte, the French Emperor, led 600,000 troops to conduct an expedition to Russia, occupying Moscow in September the same year. Under the command of Kutuzov, the Russian army adopted the scorched earth tactics and did not make a positive battle with the French troops. Instead, they moved back and forth to crack down on them. The hunger and cold threatened the French. Coupled with the long war on the frontlines, traffic was often cut off, supplies of food and ammunition were not available and Napoleon was forced to withdraw from Incola on 19 October, leading to the failure of the expedition. This failure became a major turning point in Napoleon’s political life. Reasons for the retreat There is also a little-known important factor aside from the description of the earth: a woman wearing a veil behind Napoleon reaches out for revenge. Who is she? Why revenge on Napoleon?
