Professor Liang Shuquan, a forerunner and mentor of analytical chemists in China, graduated from Yenching University in Peiping in the 1930s and received a PhD degree in Natural Philosophy from Ming Xing University in Germany. In 1955, he was elected a member of Chemistry Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He determined the atomic weight of iron in 1940 for the International Atomic Weight Board adopted and in use today. In the early 1950s, he studied the influence of fluorine-bearing iron ore on nearby air and water and was one of the earliest workers in China to study environmental pollution. He was one of the earliest researchers engaged in rare earth chemistry after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. He has studied many Elemental analysis, separation methods and the application of organic reagents in analytical chemistry. Professor Liang Shuquan published more than 120 papers, published more than 10 books, and edited and edited a variety of academic journals, won many awards. He has trained several generations of analytical chemistry talent in his long career in chemistry teaching and research. Professor Leung loves the motherland, dedicated to science and rigorous scholarship, making an important contribution to the development of China’s chemical industry and setting an example for the majority of chemical workers. Next year is the 10th Anniversary of the “Spectrum Laboratory”. Professor Liang Shuquan specially wrote the inscription: “Keep improving, never relax” and congratulate; and write a paper entitled “Expectation to Our Analytical Chemistry”. This is not only a concern, support and encouragement for my journal, but also a long-term and hard-working guide for the national analytical chemists and other scientists and technologists. Spectroscopy analysis is an important branch of analytical science. Professor Liang’s advice is very cordial to our country’s broad spectrum of spectrum, energy spectrum and spectral analysis workers. We must live up to Professor Liang’s expectations and allow Spectrum Laboratory to become an important field that will promote the development of our country’s spectroscopic analysis and reflect the aspirations of spectral analysis workers.
