The complicated historical origins and the entanglements of interests have made it difficult for the South Asian subcontinent to have a peaceful sky. In the late 1980s, India was equipped with a T-72 main battle tank from Russia, while its neighboring Pakistan purchased the ZTZ-85IIAP main battle tank from China. However, the overall technical standards of these two tanks are low-grade in the post-war third-generation tanks, and there is a big gap from the third-generation mainstream tanks in the West. After the Gulf War, the dream of a main battle tank equipped with the same level of the third-generation mainstream tank in the West has been lingering in India and Pakistan
