“Accountability” and “Reflection” are the two key words in German literature after World War II. However, this attitude of self-criticism did not arise spontaneously. It was always influenced by the historical discourse of the times. This article tries to clear out a clue for German postwar literature from the perspective of “memory discourse” and divide its development into three stages. Through a brief analysis of the important writers and works of these three stages, the picture of Germany’s post-war literature is outlined.
