The efficiency of planetary gear rotation is an important issue that must be considered when designing and selecting a planetary gear drive, especially for high power planetary gear drives. However, the efficiency of planetary gear transmission is closely related to the transmission of its movement. It is therefore essential to know how the motion is transmitted to the driven shaft, what it has in common and what is different from what is typical of a fixed-axis gear. Having figured out this issue, we can understand more deeply why general planetary gear drives (referred to as NGW drives) are more efficient than their corresponding fixed-axis drives.
