如皋县农业局良种场位于长江下游中心的长青沙,是由上游泥沙沉积而成的岛状平地,遵照毛主席“竹子要大发展”的伟大教导,从1967年开始,积极发展竹子生产,共培育了毛竹10.1亩,刚竹12亩,淡竹16亩。开始,由于少数同志受“毛竹不能过江”旧的传统观念束缚,曾一度放松了抚育管理,使引进的毛竹造林成活率低,林分生长缓慢。后来,通过到外地参观学习,才解放了思想,扩大了眼界,找到了差距,落实了适合于江心小岛的具体培育措施,收到了较好的效果。目前林分都已满园,秆粗林密,枝叶苍翠,长势喜人,现已投入生产。对于地下水位高、土壤偏粘、四面环水的江心小岛亦能安全进行竹子生产,这对今后在类似地区扩大竹林面积,将有现实的指导意义。 Rugao County Bureau of Agriculture is located in the Changjiang River in the center of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
