The base of Aogu Wetland & Forest Park is located in the place of land reclamation from sea by Taiwan Sugar Corporation in early years,the stronghold for agriculture,fishery,and livestock industries,and sugarcane planting.The fact that the farm is located in the coastal and low-lying,and groundwater was drawn out excessively with the prevalence of fish farming in the coastal areas of Tungshih led to severe ground subsidence,saltwater intrusion into groundwater level,making the soil salinity of the Aogu area too high,not suitable to grow sugarcane and other crops for the Cooperation,and the farm declined gradually and was abandoned.The fish ponds and old agricultural lands become a natural impounding reservoir after heaving rains as the abandoned farm is low-lying and surrounded by seawall.As time passes,the Aogu area is taken as the shelter or stay place by more and more migratory and resident birds because of these pond wetlands,which becomes the base of the current Aogu Wetland & Forest Park.The park is vast in area,and the large area of tree plantation thrives sturdily.And Aogu wetland has great potentials and becomes an international ecological environment with diverse forest forms and rich wetland ecological resources.
