The Triennial International Chinese Teaching Symposium was held at Xiangshan Hotel, Beijing from August 11 to 15, 1993. This conference has many new research results and research fields, arousing the interest and concern of delegates. How to write Chinese teaching materials is a difficult problem in teaching Chinese as a second language. Some delegates considered that the principle of the compilation of a new generation of Chinese teaching materials should be guided by the proficiency in application and the goal of cultivating communicative competence.
