In order to introduce the hard capsule into the rectum smoothly, it is sometimes necessary to wrap the capsule shell with a sliding garment which can be swelled to form a hydrogel upon contact with bodily fluids so as to make the capsule easy to be inserted. This article evaluates the gliding garment for hard rectal capsules. Because of the smooth, non-adsorptive nature of the capsule wall, the coating material is less likely to adhere to the gel shell, so hard-coated capsules are far more difficult to coat than tablets. In this paper, lactose-filled capsule No. 0 was used as the coating model.
