Defining Layer Velocity Methodology Overview (Pre-stack, Non-zero Offset Data) 3.2 CDR Tomography Objective Functions The purpose of CDR tomography is to find a velocity model that best matches these picked parameters Fit (or best match). In order to measure this fit, an objective function (a function that describes how well the model fits the data) is used. 3.2.1 The Unstable Objective Function The most direct objective function is as follows: Ray of ray parameters p_s and p_g are traced respectively from x_ (?) Point and x_g point until the rays meet. Calculate the total predicted travel time; the objective function consists of the squared differences between predicted and observed travel times. This direct method is not the method I used, Figure 3.2 shows two reasons why it is not my method. The first problem is the small, unavoidable error in the ray parameters, which can cause large errors in the speed measurement.
