Four major companies, including public transport, gas, water, and ferries, are the backbone public enterprises in Nanjing. In recent years, in the process of transition from a planned economy to a market economy, these four companies have suffered losses to varying degrees, and have been increasing. In 1991, the loss amounted to 61.4 million yuan, which was increased to 104.21 million yuan in 1992, and will reach 181.01 million yuan in 1993. The main reason for the loss is that the price of public utility products deviates from the value.
