二期课改的重点之一是在“研究型课程”中发展以研究的方式主动地获取知识、应用知识、解决问题的能力,并且要将研究性学习作为一种新型的体现素质教育思想和要求的学习方式贯穿在整个学校教育的所有活动中。《上海市中小学语文课程标准》的“高中阶段内容与要求”中指出:要形成课题意识,能根据自己的兴趣爱好和语文学习目标,确定阅读专题;有写读书报告或专题报告的意识。
