[Japan Atomic Report, Nov. 1994, p. 29] Japan’s Ministry of International Trade (MITI) intends to start a forecast of energy supply and demand in Asia. The projection for fiscal year 1995 is 452 million yen. If energy shortages may inhibit the growth of Asian economies, the Ministry of International Welfare plans to develop an energy plan for the cooperation of its Asian neighbors and other members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum. For Japan, 15% of its oil imports, 10% of coal imports, and 80% of natural gas imports depend on Asian countries.
