The thermal decomposition of KHC2O4 · H2O by thermal analysis and gas chromatography coupled with gas chromatography (TA-GC) showed that in air and helium gas, it started to decompose slowly to release crystal water. KHC2O4 is then rapidly decomposed into K2C2O4 and some gas products are released: O2 (early decomposition), CO, CO2 and H2O. The decomposition mechanism of KHC2O4 is discussed
