番茄原产于南美秘鲁一带,经墨西哥等地传入欧洲意大利发展成加工番茄。台湾于1895年由日本引进鲜食番茄品种栽培,1967年日本可口美公司来台设厂生产番茄加工品,台湾才开始加工番茄生产。据1984年台湾农业年报刊载,台湾番茄栽培面积达12,248公顷,目前加工番茄年栽培面积在6,000~8,000公顷,产地集中在台南云嘉南
Tomato is native to the Peruvian area of South America. It was introduced to Italy and developed into processed tomato in Mexico and other places. Taiwan imported cultivated tomato varieties from Japan in 1895. In 1967, the Japanese delicious beauty company came to Taiwan to set up factories to produce processed tomato products, and Taiwan began processing tomato production. According to the 1984 Taiwan Agricultural Yearbook, Taiwan’s tomato cultivation area amounts to 12,248 hectares.
