唐代儒学处于汉代经学和宋明理学之间的过渡阶段,从制礼作乐以缘饰盛世到探讨德行修养以挽救世道人心,盛、中唐儒学出现了这一由外向内的转变,体现出汉、宋儒学发展的趋势。张九龄一方面与张说宣扬符命祥瑞,通过制礼作乐来润色王业,在新的历史时期发挥汉代儒学的精义,另一方面又自觉践履儒家的德行操守,不仅开启了儒学发展的新命题,而且通过树立儒家的人格典范,对唐代士人产生了深远的影响。
Confucianism in the Tang Dynasty was in the transitional stage between the Han sutras and the Neo-Confucianism.
