西部地区土地面积有683.26万平方公里,占全国71.2％;人口3.13亿人,占全国28.52％,少数民族人口约占全国少数民族总人口的86％。开发西部,活跃西部地区市场是调整我国经济结构的需要;是加速对外开放,连接国内外市场、扩大流通的需要;也是地区间协调发展和保持全国社会、政治稳定的需要;是我国各民族间团结协同、相互支持、共同繁荣的需要。
The land area in the western region is 6.8326 million square kilometers, accounting for 71.2% of the national total. The population is 313 million, accounting for 28.52% of the total population. The minority population accounts for about 86% of the total population of ethnic minorities in the country. To develop the west and to activate the market in the western region is the need to readjust our economic structure; to speed up the pace of opening up to the outside world, to connect domestic and foreign markets and expand circulation; and to coordinate the development among regions and maintain the social and political stability of the entire country; Unity and cooperation, mutual support and common prosperity need.
