Wendy Watson is a writer in the history of contemporary American drama who paid special attention to the living conditions of knowledgeable women. Her play, known as the living fossil of her time, has written about female experience and the history of women, reflecting the paradigm of power and the role of intellectual women in contemporary American society. Its dramas show that in the vast network of power relations, intellectual women are subject to the power of all parties while constantly subverting their authority. This kind of subversion and inclusion took part in the construction of history, reflecting the huge gap between the ideal of social justice and the reality of inequality. At the same time, the tension created by this disparity also brought about the possibility of changing the social structure. As a liberal humanist, knowledgeable women construct discourse on women and women’s culture through “negotiation ” and “self-shaping ” within the paradigm of power operation, reflecting the writer’s introspection of the feminist movement.
