两汉时期,河西走廊不仅是匈奴的经济、政治与军事活动的主要基地,而且是中西交通的咽喉,在匈奴政权中具有重要作用。因此,占领河西走廊也就成了两汉政府的主要对外政策。河西走廊直接关系到汉王朝的边境安全与统治稳定,关系到匈奴的盛衰存亡,因而,汉匈双方为争夺河西走廊在300年间曾发生了多次战争,最后以匈奴被逐出河西走廊远遁西方而为结局。两汉时期的河西走廊在匈、汉统治政权中都占有重要的战略地位。
During the Han Dynasty, the Hexi Corridor was not only the main base of the economic, political and military activities of the Huns, but also the throat of the traffic between China and the West.
