与身心的二元对立相应,我们的知识领域也被区分为自然科学和人文学科,身体自然被归于自然科学。于是,身体常常被人文知识分子忽视。身体美学——这个以身体为中心的跨学科研究领域也遭受到人文学科的抵制,其原因有二:(一)身体表达了人性本身的含混性:主体/客体;共性/差异;知识/蒙昧……人文主义不愿意正视人性的局限性,高扬心灵而贬抑身体。(二)身体是我们生活中必不可少的工具,然而工具性这个概念在人文主义传统中常常蕴涵着低劣的意味——工具性的手段服务于高贵的目的。身体的效用是身体美学的研究对象,它包括三个分支领域:分析性身体美学、实用主义身体美学和实践性身体美学。身体不仅是工具,也是工具的使用者,身体不仅是完善人性的重要工具,也是这个目的的一部分。

Humanism does not want to face the limitations of humanity, elevating the soul and devalue the body. (B) The body is an indispensable tool in our life. However, the concept of instrumentalism often implies inferior meanings in the tradition of humanism - instrumental means serve noble purposes. The utility of the body is the subject of bodily aesthetics, which consists of three branches: analytical bodily aesthetics, pragmatic bodily aesthetics and practical bodily aesthetics. The body is not only a tool, but also a user of the tool. The body is not only an important tool for perfecting humanity, but also a part of this purpose.
