有关温度对棉花生长发育的研究很多，棉花铃重与开花至吐絮期间热量条件密切相关，花铃期热量条件影响铃重的关键时期为开花后5—20d。开花后棉铃急剧生长，体积增大，大约经过20-30d，棉铃可以长到最大体积。受精后棉子和棉铃同时发育，开花后约经20～30d种子就长到最大。
