1956年,科学家们在黑海东部苏呼米湾的洋底进行考察研究时,意外地发现了一片奇特的洋底结构,其形状仿佛是古代的一个城堡。消息传出后,引起了不少考古学家、历史学者的浓厚兴趣。经过认真而又仔细的考证,确定那是古希腊时代的一座城市,而且是当时的一个商业中心。那么,究竟是什么原因促使这座繁华的古城堡“葬身”洋底了呢?是地震?还是火山爆发?都不是。各种证据表明,那是由于土地下沉,约在公元前八世纪被海水吞没了。人们不禁要问,地面沉降又是怎么一回事呢?
