Japan’s copper output in 1977 was 929,000 tons, second only to the United States and the Soviet Union, ranking third in the world. In 1974, copper production reached 996,000 tons. In 1976, the ratio of copper output to steel output was 0.8%. In general, the ratio of copper to steel in industrialized countries is 1.2%.
