The establishment of the AIIB marks an effort to change how capital flows into the world economy and where it flows. In the past, China and other emerging market countries have recycled their domestic savings into the sovereign debt of the United States, Britain, the European Union and Japan. This has helped these developed countries to live in ways that they can afford because the inflows from emerging markets fill a huge gap in spending and income for these countries. The capital markets of the future will undergo a profound change, as these funds will no longer be invested in paper-based financial assets but will be invested in real economic activities such as railways, ports and airports. And the destinations for these investments will be a large number of countries, not just a few major developed countries
