Recently read an article titled “11 Destinations on the World’s End”, of which Venice, the world famous city of water, was impressed. It is said that “Venice is falling into crisis. Each year, one-third of Venice’s waters are soaked in seawater ”Although a bit sensational, it added to my longing for the historic city of Venice. Founded in 453 AD, Venice became a city-state of the Byzantine Empire in 697. After the 13th century, became the commercial center of the Mediterranean. Shakespeare’s famous play “The Merchant of Venice” describes the commercial prosperity of Venice. After the early 16th century, Venice gradually lost its political and commercial influence. In the late 18th century, Venice “seemed to have become a big puppet theater.” In 1797, Venice succumbed to the rule of Napoleon, with a thousand years of history of the Republic of Venice since then perish. Venice and Italy in 1866 to achieve reunification, has since become a region of Italy.
