合成橡胶在国外被称为弹性体,弹性是此类材料最显著的特点,橡胶的弹性模量具有钢的二十万分之一,在很小的外力作用下就能伸长50%~1000%,外力消除后就能在数秒内恢复到接近原始尺寸。合成橡胶具有其它非金属和金属建筑材料所没有的伸缩性、防水性、气密性、阻尼性和缓冲性等特性,因而成为现代建筑材料中的一朵奇葩。目前,结构性橡胶建筑材料已发展到数千种之多。橡胶建筑材料在建筑物上的应用主要包括防水、抗震和密封等方面。从世界范围来看,建筑领域内橡胶用量最大的是防水,其次是抗震隔震,然后才是密封。 Synthetic rubber is called elastomer in foreign countries. Elasticity is the most prominent feature of this kind of material. The elastic modulus of rubber has one-hundredth of one-thousandth of that of steel.
