Objective To investigate the value of 5 F common angiography catheter in transradial coronary angiography. Methods Eighty-nine patients undergoing radial artery coronary angiography and left ventricular angiography were selected. Radiographic imaging was performed on 5 F Judkins-type or 5-F common contrast-type catheters. The patients were divided into Judkins group (n = 48) Group (n = 4 1). The success rate of surgery, X-ray fluoroscopy time and operation time were compared. Results In the common type group, 39 cases (95.1%) had successful coronary angiography and left ventricle radiography through the radial artery approach. Forty four cases (91.7%) in the Judkins group succeeded in radiography, and the success rate in the common type group was significantly higher than that in the common type Judkins type group (P <0. 01). The average time of X-ray fluoroscopy and surgery in the Judkins group was (7.5 ± 5. 5) and (30 .8 ± 20.1) minutes, respectively. The common group was (5.4 ± 3.4) and (24.2 ± 10.4) minutes, all less than the Judkins group (P <0.01). Conclusions The diagnosis of coronary artery angiography through the radial artery is performed with a smaller diameter contrast catheter. Without strict bed rest, the patient has less trauma, convenient hemostasis and less vascular complications. It can be used as the preferred path for some selected cases. Reasonable choice of radial catheter for the imaging catheter, to improve the convenience of surgical operations, safety, and to ensure the quality of the imaging is crucial
