千岛之国印尼是东盟最大的成员国,面积190.4万多平方公里,人口1.7亿(1988年底估计数),其中华人约650万,占3.8%。早在唐代,我国闽粤等沿海省份的贫民,不少到苏门答腊、爪哇岛定居,与印尼土著和睦相处,披荆斩棘,洒汗流血,垦殖这片富饶的处女地,为繁荣印尼经济立下丰功伟绩。在反对荷兰殖民统治与日本法西斯侵略年代,华人与印尼人民并肩战斗,对民族解放、国家独立作出了贡献。今天的印尼华人在这个东盟大国
The Nation of the Thousand Islands Indonesia is the largest member of ASEAN with an area of over 1,904,000 square kilometers and a population of 170 million (estimated at the end of 1988), of which about 6.5 million are Chinese, accounting for 3.8%. As early as the Tang Dynasty, many poor people in the coastal provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, and many other places settled in Sumatra and Java and lived in harmony with the Indonesian indigenous peoples. They took pains to overcome difficulties and bloodshed and cultivated the fertile virgin land, thus contributing to the prosperity of Indonesia’s economy. Against the background of Dutch colonial rule and the fascist aggression of Japan, the Chinese fought shoulder to shoulder with the Indonesian people and made their contribution to the liberation of the nation and independence of the country.
