三峡工程的建设，其淹没区２２个市、县、地区。在对三峡工程淹没区内地面、地下文物进行普查中得知，此区域内受淹文物达１２００多处，其中包括地面、地下文物、古遗迹、古遗物遍及整个库区，极为丰富，并且历史沿革完整。这些文物依据本区内独特的地形、地质、水文、气候、环境等因素而兴建，又由于受历史年代变迁与周围环境的影响都存在不同程度的损害。本文按有关法规文件对淹没区内的文物概况及分布区域、保存现状、历史文化面貌、历史年代进行论述。
