一、瀛台之名。明代永乐年间,定都北京,修建皇宫,扩浚太液池,开挖了南海,在南海之滨建立了南台,又名趯台陂,即今天的瀛台。瀛台之名始于清代。神话传说中仙人所居的世界有三神山,名为蓬莱、方丈、瀛洲。清朝宫廷以太液池三海对应三仙山,南台即改名瀛台,取人间仙境之意。明代的南台,为皇帝休憩之所,那时只有一座香扆殿,整个岛上林木深茂,有水田村舍,水鸟翔集,颇有水乡之趣。清代顺治以后,在岛上扩建宫室,逐渐形成了今天的规模,一座座华丽的建筑,已失去了田园的情趣。瀛台已不仅是皇帝的休息
