In New Zealand, Actinidia deliciosa var. Deliciosa plants commonly have malnutrition problems, while potassium deficiency is the most widespread. However, extensive surveys of the main producing areas show that very large numbers of plants are affected by excess boron. In most cases, the high incidence of excess boron is associated with irrigating high levels of boron or applying excess boron (typically, more than 2 kg of boron per hectare). In recent years, kiwifruit has been quite successful in commercial production, but little is known about the technical requirements of its cultivation, especially the effects of malnutrition on the yield and precocious storage. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of excessive boron on the growth of commercial kiwifruit orchard.
