The Chikugo River basin, near Kurume, remains one of the major areas where Japanese people are infected with schistosomiasis japonica. Biopsies from the region are often biopsied from Schistosoma japonicum eggs in tissue samples of various organs. Especially in liver tissues, patients with schistosomiasis japonica who are damaged or severely fibrotic with light granuloma are almost always detected with eggs. In this kind of liver tissue which is caused by schistosome eggs and develops to the stage of liver cirrhosis, a very serious pathological change can be seen. Department of Pathology, Kurume University School of Medicine Conducted a wide range of pathological studies on cirrhosis of Schistosoma japonicum in the context of autopsy and biopsy of patients and experimental schistosomiasis in rabbits.
