越剧美学定位乃“女性戏曲”,越剧擅演妇女题材,关注妇女命运,是由此剧种本体所决定的。女子越剧不但能够演好古代戏,也能够演好现代戏。女小生不必一定排斥阳柔,刚柔相济可也。剧种在从事改革的时候特别要善待老观众。老观众维护剧种本体是理所当然的。从表现现代生活的艺术实践中发展起来的越剧将是又一轮“新越剧”。
