５０ｋｍ范围内２级以上地震年频数的空间扫描图，揭示了１９７０年以来晋北及其附近地区５级以上地震发生前，震中附近地区出现的地震空区．文中展示了从１９７０—１９９５年每年的空间扫描图，供分析对比。由这些图可以看到，图中所示的地震空区，都不是永久性的空区，而是震前由于应力场发生变化而产生的空区。由空区出现至发震约２—４年．震后空区消失。依据１９９４─１９９５年７月在该地区出现的空区，结合地质背景提出了预测意见．
