“My Son’s Story” is Gordimer’s representative work expressing a complex relationship of mutual entanglement and mutual construction of ethnic identity and gender identity. With a black-and-white story, she explores the possibility of sex beyond racial differences and at the same time suggests that black people’s “white hearts” limit the formation and promotion of black consciousness so that more marginalized black women become more active The construction of an important force of national political system. However, the vague perspective of the novel narrative also reveals Gordon Mo himself’s contradictory mentality of ethnic identity and gender identity.
