通过对１９９０年以前抵达澳大利亚的中国大陆新移民状况的调查研究，发现中国大陆新移民通过不惜一切代价就业、从事多种工作加快家庭积累、走自我就业之路及关注市场走向，是取得成功的关键。调查结果表明：从事小商业小企业经营，不仅为很多人提供了就业机会，还是大多数新移民进入中产阶级的必要途径。新移民的创业之路无疑对我国下岗职工解决生活出路问题有所启迪
