“天书”与市场在学者阿尔森·波里尼撰写的论著《抽象绘画》中,开篇有这样一段话:“抽象艺术真可称得上是20世纪典型的艺术样式了,可是没有一个人敢断言它属于通俗的艺术样式。对于广大民众来说,它仍然像喜马拉雅山一样——太高、太远,无从测探,不可理解。”也正如本书的译者、中国学者王端廷所说,抽象艺术是塞尚开创的西方现代主义艺术的最终目的,也是西方现代主义艺术史最伟大的成果。但是,即使是对于生活在同一文化土壤的西方普通观众来说,抽象艺术也不是容易看懂的,而对于中国观众来说,西方现代抽象派艺术更是一部难以破译的“天书”。

For the Chinese audience, the western modern abstract art is even more difficult to decipher. .
