Toni Morrison’s eighth novel Love, published in 2003, continues her writing style of consistently exploring the history and culture of Afro-American people, with the theme of “love”, the late hero Bill West on the impact of people around as a clue, tells a complicated story of love and hate. Symbolism is a powerful expression of fiction, in which hand images are given special meaning. Morrison vividly portrays the characters, experiences, contradictions and relationships through depicting the images of the different sides of the hand. While focusing on the black cultural tradition, Morrison also reveals the theme of love.
