京津城际列车拉近了北京、天津两个大型城市的距离,缩短了时间,放大了各种生产要素、资源组合配置的空间,有利于两大城市联手成为国际上功能齐全、影响重大的超大型城市;有利于两地产业层次的提高,引领区域经济的发展。高铁从促进沿线第三产业的发展、增加劳动就业机会、减小地区间的经济发展差异方面为区域经济做出重要的贡献,高铁速度正转化为区域融合速度。国外的日本新干线、法国高速铁路等也是带动区域发展的成功案例。
