Objective To study the distribution pattern and changing trend of body mass index of adults aged 20 ~ 45 in Hubei Province from 1991 to 2009. Methods A stratified multistage cluster random sampling method was used to investigate the health and nutrition in Hubei Province (2 cities and 4 rural areas) from 1991 to 2009, and adult residents between 20 and 45 years old were selected as the research object (1991 Year, 676, 506 in 2000, and 321 in 2009). The changes of low weight, normal, overweight ratio and rate among residents aged 20-45 years were analyzed respectively from year, gender and region. The BMI percentage curves for 1991 and 2009 use age-specific gender. Results Compared with 1991, the body mass index curve of both men and women moved up in 2009. Overweight men increased by 13.9%, women increased by 12.0%. The rate of overweight / obesity far exceeds that of men and women at low rates of weight loss. For the men, the 15th, 50th and 85th percentile curves of body mass index showed a general trend of increase from 1991 to 2009, and at the higher level of the body mass index percentile The rate of increase is also larger. Age has a greater impact on the change of body mass index in men. When men over 32 years of age, in the same percentile curve, for example, at the 15th or 50th percentile curve, the curve increased in value greater than the corresponding young man. The 15th, 50th and 85th percentiles of female body mass index showed a general trend of stabilization during the 18 years (1991-2009). Conclusion The change of body mass index of Chinese residents shows that the changes of males in 20-45 years old are greater than that of females. For each corresponding age-body mass index percentage curve, the change of females is smaller than that of males.
