海南省四面环海,全省海岸线全长1528公里,占全国海岸的1/10,海洋面积200多平方公里,拥海海洋经济鱼类800多种和多种水生动物。不仅有昌化、三亚、清澜春季渔汛,而且有著名的北部湾秋季渔汛,还有南渡江、昌化江、陵水河、万泉河等大量水流入海,给海域注入丰富的浮游生物,具有鱼种类多、生长快、渔汛周期长的特点,享有“海洋大省”之称,为海洋水产业的发展提供了广阔的空间场所。海南建省以来,海洋水产业迅速发展。1992年全省水产品总产量25.7万吨,总产值12.9亿元,相当于建省前1987年的1.3倍和3.5倍,年均递增18％,水产业总产值占农业总产值15.6％,比1991年
