A great deal of research work on the picks involves the work energy required by the picks in the cutting process and the energy consumption of the picks in order to achieve the desired breaking effect. Mechanical cutting produces dust, and when the pick is worn out, especially after the worn pick has a 7% reduction in weight compared to the new pick, continued dusting increases the concentration of dust generated. Three factors that affect cutter wear are: working parameters of the mining machine, the mining conditions of the cutting face, and the characteristics of the coal and rock being mined.
