美国剧坛两大名家,田纳西·威廉斯(Tennessee Williams 1912—1983)和兰福德·威尔逊(Lanford Wilson 1937—)皆来自被称为“十字路口之州”的美国密苏里州。他们在那里不同的生活经历和感受,使他们在各自的作品中反映出了不同的人生观和创作观。本文以“十字路口”为喻,通过分析两位剧作家以密苏里州为背景的作品中的“南北与东西”、“掠夺与守护自然”、“外乡人与本地人”等几对二元要素,深刻揭示出这些要素对剧作家在刻画人物、突出主题以及体现美国价值观等方面产生不同的影响,从而通过对二元要素的解读,进一步加深对作品和作家的理解。
The two major American theater stars, Tennessee Williams (1912-1983) and Lanford Wilson (1937-) are from Missouri, United States, known as the “State of a Crossroads.” Where they lived in different experiences and feelings, so that they reflect in their respective works a different outlook on life and creation. In this paper, “Crossroads” as the metaphor, through the analysis of the two playwright Missouri in the background of the work “North-South and East,” “Predatory and Guardian of Nature,” “outsiders and locals ”And several other pairs of elements, revealing profoundly that these elements have different influences on the dramatists in portraying figures, highlighting the theme and embodying the values of the United States, and so on, so as to further deepen their understanding of works and writers understanding.
