Objective To study the characteristics of cerebral arterial system in New Zealand white rabbits and lay a foundation for establishing a model of cerebrovascular disease in rabbits. Methods Twenty New Zealand white rabbits were subjected to digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The microcatheter was introduced into the proximal internal carotid artery through the femoral artery of New Zealand white rabbits to analyze the anatomy of the cerebral arteries in New Zealand white rabbits. Results The anterior and posterior circulation of the brain developed clearly. New Zealand white rabbits had a similar cerebral artery system in humans. Conclusions Superselective cerebral angiography is helpful to better display the anterior and posterior cerebral artery system in rabbits. New Zealand white rabbits are similar to human in cerebral arteries and provide a more detailed imaging basis for the establishment of a model of cerebral arterial system vascular disease in rabbits.
