In the mid-1980s, Mr. Yu Xun returned from Daishan, Zhejiang Province to make acquaintance with the painter Arbor and wrote a letter that asked me to visit. I remember when Mr. Joe was relocated to the new home in Tianlin Village of Huxi just a moment ago, Mr. Tong Yanfang inscribed him as a badge of “Old Tian Lin”. He looks round and fat, but not tall. At that time, I was invited to write a lecture on the Appreciation of Western Paintings by Shanghai Arts and Culture Department, which was broadcast on TV by Cao Fan and others. After meeting, Mr. Jamo praised me for writing the article. During his chat, Mr. Qiao talked to me: Since his early years he was a poor and a poor student, he was a student of Jiang Shanting who taught painting art. For a long time, he was the only one who worked diligently and unswervingly. He explained: “Learn to draw, the teacher brought in and practiced by himself.”
