应用基因载体可以将某些目的基因 (具有转化功能 )导入胶质瘤细胞 ,这些高效目的基因能将体内无毒或低毒的“前药”在胶质瘤局部转化为一种局部浓度高、对胶质瘤毒性作用强而全身毒副作用小的化疗药。旁观者效应则可通过增加胶质瘤细胞缝隙连接而自动放大局部化疗药的治疗效果 ,已发现cAMP可大大加强旁观者效应。削弱血 -脑肿瘤屏障以及联合基因治疗也都是实施胶质瘤自杀基因治疗的重要手段
