武汉石油化工厂在中国石化总公司系统属深度加工能力浅、规模较小的直属企业。建厂十多年来,一直处在产品比较单一、效益徘徊的状态。国家在安排“八五”计划中又没有给该厂新项目,眼看后劲不足,人心浮动,不少人为了自己的前途,曾提出调走。当时新上任的孙君贵厂长面对现状,立志“为官一任,造福一方”,率班子成员为武石化出现腾飞的明天而研究对策,确立了“依靠科技求发展,改革管理创效益”的方针。决策和路子对了头,企业的活力增强了。1993年在全国500家大型企业中其效益跃居第68位。实践证明:依靠科技和改革管理是武石化发展的两个轮子,而轮子的运转靠的是教育。
