笔墨问题,是20世纪中国画界争论较大的焦点问题之一,一方面它作为中国画的基本工具,一方面作为中国画的技法,另一方面它又作为评价中国画的一个标准。作为中国画的工具,它指的是一般意义的毛笔与墨;作为中国画的技法,它指的是笔法(勾、勒、皴、擦、点等)与墨法(焦墨、浓墨、重墨、淡墨、清墨以及烘、染、破、泼、积等墨法);作为评价中国画的一个标准,它指的是作品好坏优劣的价值判断基础。由此可见,笔墨对于中国画来讲,其意义重大。
